Here is the best advice a coffee retailer/blogger can give you…

Need to spice up your love life? Get yourself a latte machine

Now, we could start this off with the typical advice one can give you to help your love life. Go to the gym, eat less doughnuts, get healthy, get right with yourself, exude manliness and confidence, be ambitious…blah, blah, blah. This may just be the coffee retailer in us but a high quality latte machine can go a long way to impressing not just that special someone in your life but everyone who walks into your home.

Honestly. You wouldn’t believe the amount of immediate compliments, questions and just overall amazement you’ll find from people walking into your kitchen noticing that shiny latte machine sitting on your countertop.

“Dang, what is that gorgeous thing?”

“Whoa – do you actually use that?”

“That thing is stunningly beautiful…let’s get it on”

Just a few of the phrases you should get use to hearing once you purchase one of the machines we’re about to go over. First, allow us to convince you why need one.

Or, if you’re already sold on buying one, just scroll down.

You'll Love The Immediate Benefits

They show you know what you’re doing in this world.

In all seriousness, latte machines do so much more than show you drink coffee. They put it out there that you’re enough put together to wake yourself up early (before work, hopefully. Remember, women like men with jobs) and make yourself a nice cappuccino or latte instead of sleeping in, rushing to put your cloths on and running to Dunkin’ Donuts before you get to work.

They imply you’ll be making something delicious in the morning.

Furthermore, it shows that one you’re trying to impress that you can make them something nice in the morning. What coffee drinker doesn’t enjoy waking up to the smell of freshly roasted beans?

They’ll have you waking up earlier and being more productive

It's no secret that coffee can have a direct effect on productivity

Is it crazy to say buying a latte machine will have you excited to wake up early? Ok, maybe excited is the wrong word but I think you get where we’re going. It’s much easier to get out of bed in the morning when you have something to look forward to, right? A latte machine will do just that for any coffee lover – you’ll have less trouble rolling out of bed. Nowadays, these machines are so automated, all you have to do is push a button and boom – a delicious cappuccino is made for you in seconds.

The Pros of a Latte Machine Far Exceed The Cons

Pros:

  • Conversation Starter
  • Look Good In The Kitchen
  • Imply You’re Put Together
  • Make Delicious Coffee Drinks
  • Will Prevent You From Spending Thousands At Starbucks

Cons:

  • Can’t think of any, sorry

Espresso Maker Reviews

Now that we’ve convinced you, let’s go over our favorite machines. We’ve broken this down into 3 categories to go over our favorite top rated latte machines currently on the market.

  1. Worth The Investment – Cheaper Machines But Still Good
  2. Sexy Looking – Machine That Are Sure to Impress
  3. Costly But Awesome – These Will Set You Back But The Coffee Is Damn Good

Our Favorite Latte Machines – Worth The Investment

Latte Machines that won’t break the bank but still deliver excellent coffee and yield compliments galore.

Mr. Coffee Café Barista Latte Machine

mr coffee cafe barista latte machine

The Good

Straight from a brand you’ve almost certainly heard of, Mr. Coffee, this is an excellent entry-level espresso machine and latte maker. If you’ve never had one before, a machine like this is a great cherry popper. A 3-in-1 espresso machine, cappuccino maker and latte machine, the Café Barista features an automatic milk frother, one-touch control panel (for drink selections) and gorgeous touches of stainless steel throughout.

Additional Features:

  • Easy To Use
  • Automatically Froths Milk – No Barista Skills Needed
  • Removable Water Reservoir
  • One Touch – Select Your Drink And Sit Back

The Bad

While only $169, we’re not crazy about the amount of exposed plastic on this guy. We’d obviously prefer a machine draped in stainless steel however that would up the price significantly. We’ll get into those later.

Not a ton of drink options – there are more machines out there that can make you pretty much any espresso-based drink you want. Not this one – it’s limited to espresso, cappuccino and lattes.

Bottom Line

The Mr. Coffee Café Barista is an outstanding machine for those working on a tighter budget. Sure, there are better machines out there but this one certainly will get the job done and having you making some pretty good (better than Dunkin’) coffee in the comfort of your own home. A no-brainer.

Great machine for the price. I spent a good amount of time researching for an espresso and latte machine. I looked over different brands and costs and while I agree this is not a expensive or professional machine, it does make great espressos and lattes. Very easy to use and clean and definitely love the taste. My daughter loves the hot chocolate with frothed milk and even my wife likes her cappuccinos. I read a few reviews regarding water leaks and I can't see this to be a problem, it's more on if the water tank is inserted properly. I also have a Kerrigan machine and they both are almost the same size. One more thing, the machine starts and warms water faster (no more than a 5-7 minutes). Definitely a great buy so far. If you are looking for a decent price and great coffee maker this is the one for you.

Gourmia GCM4000 Semi Automatic Espresso Machine

gourmia latte machine

The Good

This one sort of screams “I’m a bachelor” or “I live alone”, right? A single serve, single touch, K-Cup compatible latte machine contains a built-in milk frother, an adjustable shelf (for all different sized cups) and capability to make either a cappuccino, latte or a single cup of coffee. Coming in at the low price of $129, the Gourmia is incredibly functional and easy to use (one touch).

Additional Features:

  • Easy to use
  • Slim
  • ETL Certified
  • Adjustable Drip Tray
  • Coffee Optional

The Bad

There’s a distinct lack of stainless steel on this one, much to our displeasure. Still, we can’t exactly call it a bad looking machine. It’s slim design and excellent features still make the Gourmia an excellent choice for someone looking to up their coffee game.

I’m not sure how they can have the coffee option in addition to cappuccino and latte. After all, those two drinks require espresso, not coffee. This is unfortunately something that comes with cheaper machines. None of them actually make real espresso but rather really, really hot coffee. If you want espresso, you’ll have to spend a little more. I guess what you’re getting is a cappuccino or latte with coffee instead of espresso. – hmm.

Bottom Line

The price on this one is just right – for anyone. The coffee and drinks it produces are a severe upgrade to your standard drip coffee machine and will have you spending less at Starbucks (always a good thing, right).

The Gourmia is very easy to use. The quality of the cappuccino is as good as any you'd buy in a coffee shop.

Nespresso Vertuo With Aeroccino Latte Machine

nespresso vertuo latte machine

The Good

This beauty has it all. Everything you’ll need to make some pretty darn good espresso at home. George Clooney endorses Nespresso. Shouldn’t you? Kidding of course.

Included in this is the Aeroccino Plus milk frother from Nespresso. This is a one-touch milk preparation tool that will instantly create velvety smooth milk for either a cappuccino or latte in seconds. All you need to do is press a button.

Additional Features:

  • Centrifusion Technology
  • Two Capsule Sizes
  • Automatic Shutoff
  • 15 Second Heat Up Time
  • Auto Blend Recognition
  • One-Touch Brewing

 The Bad

The only issue we have will Nespresso machines, or any pod machine, is the constant re-buying of those pods. It may not seem like much at first but in the long run you’ll be spending thousands on this $215 latte machine solely on replacement pods. You can’t use ground coffee in a Nespresso machine, unfortunately.

Bottom Line

Nespresso is a brand you’ve definitely seen on TV and heard of. The coffee they make is actually pretty good. Good, but not real espresso. Sorry, but as a major retailer of prosumer espresso machines, we can honestly tell you that a Nespresso machine is not actually making espresso. Good stuff, just not real espresso. If you want espresso done correctly, be prepared to open up your wallet!

I've read some negative reviews, but most are positive so when I found a good price, I grabbed the opportunity to order this Nespresso. I haven't had any problems with it, and I absolutely love the coffee and the frother. Hubby and sister like the espresso while I prefer the Caramelizio coffee with heated cashew milk (the milk doesn't froth, but the coffee itself is frothy enough.) I haven't abandoned my Keurig altogether, but I prefer Nespresso. I wholeheartedly recommend this excellent espresso/coffee maker.

Our Favorite Latte Machines – Sexy Looking

These Latte Machines are drop dead gorgeous. These beauties will yield endless compliments and will look stunning on your countertop. Better than their appearance is their features – they’ll make some pretty good espresso.

Delonghi ECP3630 Latte Machine

delonghi 3630 latte machine

The Good

Draped in stainless steel, the 3630 is a compact stunner. Semi-automatic, you’ll have to do a little more work with this one. Enter portafilters. If you’ve never had an espresso machine before then you’ve probably never heard of a portafilter. Portafilters are those spoon-like utensils with the big basket on the end of it. Professional espresso machines in your local café use them and are the sign of a machine ready to make some real espresso.

Furthermore, the ECP3630 contains an attached steam wand but it won’t steam for you. You’ll be needing a milk steaming pitcher (included with this one) to steam your own milk. While there’s more work involved, the end product will be much, much more satisfying than super automatic machines (one-touch machines).

Putting a machine like this in your kitchen says one thing – you’re serious about your coffee.

The Bad

As mentioned above, there’s more work involved with this machine. You’ll also need a burr grinder to go with it as it does not take pods and pre-ground coffee is the worst possible type of coffee you can put in an espresso machine. Freshness is key.

So - more work and money but much, much better coffee.

Bottom Line

If you really want to start making some café-quality coffee at home, you need a machine like this. Sure, they take more work and practice to master but once you do, you’ll never go back to a standard drip coffee machine – we promise.

Is there anything sexier than a man who can froth his own milk? We don’t think so!

I've been using my machine twice daily for almost two years now. It is solid and dependable. The secret for a good espresso is to not pack the grounds too tightly in the filter or the water has a hard time passing through and also to not let them round up otherwise you won't be able to secure the holder onto the machine. The steamer makes great foam for cappuccino or a macchiato. It's important to have the right grind also. I bought the De'Longhi grinder and put it all the way to fine. Also, make sure the machine is warmed up and then to let the grounds in the filter to warm up before making the espresso.

Delonghi EC685M Latte Machine

delonghi ec680m latte machine

The Good

If an espresso machine could be a runway model, this would be it. This thing is slim, sexy and just a gorgeous machine - perfect for any kitchen. Available in four colors (stainless steel, red, white and black) the EC685M only takes up 6 inches of space! While some espresso machines on the market today a big and bulky, Delongi went the opposite way with this one and we applaud them.

Additional features:

  • 15-bar extractions
  • High quality Portafilter
  • Adjustable Steam Wand
  • Easy to Use
  • Removable Water Tank
  • Easy to Clean
  • Sleek Design
  • Easy to Store

The Bad

Honestly the only bad things we can find on this latte machine is the fact that you’ll have to go out and spend some additional funds on a quality grinder (if you don’t already have one). Creating quality espresso required a very fine grind. If your grind is off, it doesn’t matter how expensive of an espresso machine you have – the espresso will taste horrible.

You may also receive TOO MANY compliments with this one – it’s a stunner. Clearly, we’re knit picking here.

Bottom Line

Like the previous machine we reviewed, the one is going to require some preparation and work. There is no one-touch feature, there is no automatic milk frother – you have to do it yourself. But, once you master the trade, you’ll have friends and neighbors constantly wanting you to make them a cappuccino.

This machine is ideal for those working with limited space. Its sleek design allows you to place it anywhere in your kitchen without making a fuss. It’s stainless steel chassis will yield plenty of compliments and brighten up any kitchen.

Great espresso machine for beginners. You will almost always get it right! You will need to learn a trick or two to perfect your perfect cappuccino or espresso shot technique, but you will get there in no time. One of my favorite things about this machine is its size, so compact! Definitively recommend it. So sexy looking too!

Nespresso Creatista Plus Latte Machine by Breville

nespresso creatista plus latte machine

The Good

Nespresso and Breville partnered up to combine the incredibly popular pod feature from Nespresso with all the advanced functionalities of Breville Espresso Machines. The end product is a pretty cool semi-automatic pod espresso machine with an attached steam wand!

With multiple drink selections including ristretto, espresso, lungo, latte, cappuccino, flat white and more, the Creatista plus is one heck of an innovative espresso machine.

Additional Features:

  • LCD Display
  • Attached Steam Wand
  • Nespresso Pod System
  • Auto Frothing With 8 Texture Levels
  • Large Water Tank
  • 19 Bars of Pressure

The Bad

Like all other Nespresso machines, the price can be deceiving. Please be sure to take into account the cost of replacement pods. In the long run, this cost can add up and maybe even lead you to throwing the machine. It’s still cheaper than Starbucks, though!

Also like all Nespresso machines, the coffee it produces isn’t real espresso. It’s simply very hot coffee. Rule of thumb: if you aren’t required to do any grinding, you’re probably not making espresso.

Bottom Line

The Creatista is a good looking, innovating espresso machine. At a relatively steep price ($599) this machine is seemingly overpriced. You can certainly get a Nespresso machine with Aeroccino for half the price and still create some great drinks but you won’t be getting the power you’d get with this machine. Is it worth the price? We think so but we’ll leave it up to you!

Very, very good machine. Milk frother works great and steam cleans itself after each use. Easy to use. Choice of different coffee dispenses via color display screen. Good size water tank. For the money this has to be the absolute best machine on the market for Nespresso. You will be happy with this.

Our Favorite Latte Machines – Costly But Awesome

The first thing you’ll notice on these machines is the price tag. They’ll cost you but the benefits associated with these latte machines far exceed the cost.

Breville BES870XL Barista Express Latte Machine

breville bes870xl barista express latte machine

The Good

With an attached conical burr grinder, 15 bar extraction, a 1600 watt heating element and PID temperature control, the Barista Express gets you as close to an Italian-made espresso machine as you can without spending $2k. The price tag on this one is up there ($549) but man do you get your money’s worth.

Benefits of the Barista Express Latte Machine:

  • Attached Grinder
  • PID Temperature Control
  • Large Water Tank
  • Powerful Steam Wand
  • Many Included Accessories
  • Multiple Color Options

The Bad

If you read the reviews, the negative ones all say the same thing – it broke after a year. While these reviews are rare, it’s certainly something to take note of. If you end up going after this machine, buy it on Amazon. Their return policy is incredibly lenient.

5 months of daily use and it's still going. I hope that we can get at least a couple years out of it for the price. My only complaint is that it takes some time for the steam to build up. I guess this is just what we deal with at this price point (even though it certainly isn't an inexpensive product). Other than that, with a little practice I have been able to pull a perfect shot 90% of the time. Some of my beans dried out a bit and I realized that some adjustments are required to the grind and/or tamping to compensate. This gets a bit tricky. Overall it's been a great kitchen tool and we love the finished product.

Breville BES980XL Oracle Latte Machine

breville bes980xl oracle latte machine

The Good

Who doesn't want this thing in their kitchen? It's sexy, innovative and full of features typically found on the best latte machines. Featuring dual stainless steel boilers, an attached conical burr grinder, an automatic tamper and much, much more, this sucker ranks at the top. Want one? You'll have to pay.

Main Features of the Breville Oracle Latte Machine:

  • Hands-free Steam Wand
  • Dual Stainless Steel Italian Made Boilers
  • LCD Screen For Drink Selection
  • PID Temperature Control
  • Triple Heat System
  • Heated Group Head
  • Auto Purge
  • Pre-Infusion

The Bad

The price. Yep - that's really it. At $1,850, the Oracle will cost you but we're here to tell you it's well worth the price (if you want café-quality coffee at home).

Breville Oracle Touch Automatic Latte Machine

breville oracle automatic latte machine

The Good

The marvel of a latte machine turns amateur baristas into pros with the simple touch of a button. Dosing and steaming are made simple with automatic functionality. All you need to do is select your drink, sit back and relax! Hands free everything delivers you silky smooth steam and full bodies espresso in seconds. Every aspect of the Oracle Automatic Latte Machine has been design with usability in mind.

The parts used in this machine are of the highest quality and standards. With parts typically found in the best commercial espresso machines, you'll truly be putting a machine in your home worth of your local café.

The Bad

While this machine is rather new, there aren't too many reviews out on it yet. It's certainly a cool, good looking machine but is it worth the hefty price tag?
