General Rocket Espresso FAQ
ARE ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES GOOD?
Rocket Espresso Milano is one of the most well-respected prosumer espresso machine manufacturers in existence. In the tradition of "fatto-a-mano" or "made by hand", Rocket is one of the only manufacturers that still completely assembles their products by hand. Rocket's incredibly simplistic designed compared with innovative engineering has made them some of the most sought after espresso machines worldwide. There's a reason Rocket Espresso is the most popular brand around - their machines are as well-made as they are gorgeous.

HOW LONG DO ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES LAST?
If taken care of properly, there is no reason a Rocket Espresso machine can't last you decades.
Always ensure you're using proper, high-quality water. We highly recommend getting a filtration system if plumbing your Rocket directly to your water line.
WHERE ARE ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES MADE?
Milan, Italy.
ARE ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES AUTOMATIC?
Yes and no.
They are semi-manual.
If you're looking for a machine to simply press a button and have it pump out a cappuccino, Rocket Espresso is no for you. You'll need to do it all. From grinding beans with a high quality espresso grinder, dosing, tamping, and steaming your own milk, you'll be your own barista.
SHOULD I DESCALE A ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINE?
This is an ongoing debate between espresso enthusiasts and the manufacturers that produce these machines.
Rocket Espresso no longer recommends descaling their espresso machines. The reason being - you'll never be able to get 100% of the descaling solution out of your boiler. Those chemicals have no where to now go but in your coffee!
As long as you use proper water, there is no reason to descale your espresso machine.
IS THE COFFEE BETTER THAN A SUPER AUTOMATIC?
A resounding YES!
While super-automatic espresso machines are super convenient, they don't produce the results a Rocket Espresso (or any prosumer machine) will. The reason for this is mainly in the espresso making process with a prosumer setup. The best espresso comes when your beans (as fresh as possible) are ground directly before extraction. The problem with super-automatics as most, if not all, of them have cheap grinders attached to the machine itself. This is purely for conveniency. Additionally, most are going to leave their beans sitting in the grinder hopper overnight, not properly store them in an airtight container. Doing this kills your coffee beans as the heat from the machine rises.
It may be more work to make a cappuccino on a Rocket, but the taste is unbeatable.
WHY ISN'T CLIFF & PEBBLE LISTED ON ROCKET-ESPRESSO.COM?
Rocket Espresso has chosen to solely list importers of their products. We've chosen to source our machines from those very importers to save on customs fees/duties. Those savings are then passed on to you, our customer, in the form of free extras, extended warranties and more!
Please feel free to contact Rocket Espresso directly to confirm our dealership status. sales@rocket-espresso.com
WHY ARE ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES SO EXPENSIVE?
Quality of materials. This is the biggest difference between a Rocket and a machine you can buy on Amazon (Breville, etc). A Rocket will last you much longer than the bigger brand names as the materials used are far superior.
Demand. Rocket Espresso machines are some of the most popular and sought after machines on the market. Because of this, they are unfortunately priced about competing brands.
DO ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES HAVE PID?
Every model with the exception of the Appartamento contains PID temperature control.
DO ROCKET ESPRESSO MACHINES HAVE SHOT TIMERS?
The following Rocket Espresso machines contain a shot timer:
Rocket Appartamento FAQ
WHAT TYPE OF MACHINE IS THE APPARTAMENTO?
The Appartamento is a single boiler, heat exchanger.
What's a heat exchanger? In short, a heat exchanging (HX) espresso machine's boiler shares heat and pressure for both brewing shots of espresso and steaming milk. Different than a true single boiler espresso machine in which you'd have to perform one function, then wait for the machine to rebuild heat and pressure before performing the next function, the Appartamento allows you to brew & steam milk simultaneously.
IT DOESN'T HAVE PID - IS THIS BAD?
No. We like to think of PID as more of a conveniency than a necessity.
As long as you give your Appartamento ample time to heat up (25-30 minutes), you do not need PID. Sure, it's nice to have to be able to adjust temperatures with the touch of a button but it is not a necessity.
CAN I LEAVE IT ON ALL DAY?
While it certainly can be left on all day, it is not recommended.
WHAT DOES THE ROCKET APPARTAMENTO COME WITH?
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAT UP?
About 25-30 minutes.
CAN I PUT IT ON A WIFI TIMER?
WHAT KIND OF PRESSURE GAUGE DOES THE APPARTAMENTO HAVE?
The Appartamento solely comes with a steam pressure gauge. This gauge tells you the pressure inside your boiler. It is NOT a brew pressure gauge.
So often we get the phone call "hey, the gauge on my Appartamento isn't doing anything when I pull shots of espresso!" This is because it isn't a brew pressure gauge. It will only tell you the pressure inside your boiler, not at the group head during extraction.
WHAT KIND OF PUMP DOES THE ROCKET APPARTAMENTO HAVE?
The Appartamento contains a vibratory pump.
IS THE BOILER INSULATED ON A ROCKET APPARTAMENTO?
No. It is not.
HOW DOES THE APPARTAMENTO NERA SERIES DIFFER?
Other than the powder coated side and back panels, the Nera is the exact same as it's all-stainless clad Appartamento brethren.
WHAT IS THE ROCKET APPARTAMENTO BOILER MADE OF?
The Appartamento contains a non-insulated, 1.8 liter heat exchanging copper boiler.
Rocket Espresso Type V (Mozzafiato & Giotto) FAQ
IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MOZZAFIATO AND GIOTTO TYPE VS?
Only cosmetically. Internally they are the exact same.
The Giotto has more "rounded out" side panels where the Mozzafiato is your more traditional straighter lines.
**The Mozzafiato does not have height adjustable feet. The Giotto does.**
HOW DOES THE TYPE V COMPARE TO THE EVOLUZIONE R
The Evoluzione R series contains a Rotary pump. "R" stands for rotary.
Rotary pumps, while more expensive, will offer higher levels of consistency, are quieter, and allow you to plumb your machine directly to your water line should you choose. You can, however, also run it on the reservoir as well.
WHY A TYPE V OVER THE APPARTAMENTO?
Perhaps the biggest upgrade when comparing a Type V to an Appartamento is the presence of a brew pressure gauge in addition to a steam pressure gauge.
The Appartamento solely has a steam pressure gauge so you'll never see your bar count at extraction. If this is your first prosumer machine, having a brew gauge (Type V) will be a major asset in helping you learning what you're doing write and, more importantly, what you're doing wrong when preparing your coffee.
The Type V will also contain PID temperature control, an insulated boiler, and an ALL NEW shot timer!
CAN I LEAVE IT ON ALL DAY?
While it certainly can be left on all day, it is not recommended.
