The simple answer to the question of whether or not adding some lemon to your morning cup of coffee will help you lose weight is........no.
Unfortunately, lemon does not contain any substances or aspects that will help you burn fat. It does, however, contain many benefits worth noting.
For decades lazy people and those who despise working out having been searching for miracle solutions to shedding unwanted poundage. Have they found something by adding a little bit of lemon to their coffee?
While lemon won't exactly give you that six pack you strive on it's own, it does contain many beneficial health benefits which may include decreasing belly fat. But is it ok to put it in your coffee?

Do people put lemon in their coffee?
Believe it or not, yes, it does happen.
There have been numerous reports stating adding lemon to your coffee can assist in losing fat. However, there is no scientific data that proves this. In fact, one TikTok user claims drinking coffee and lemon for extended period of time actually resulted in weight gain.
We put lemon in water and often soda so why not coffee, right?
So are there any benefits to it?

Registered dietitians appear to be pretty unanimous in that there is no true added benefit to adding lemon to your coffee however this doesn't mean it's bad for you.
Both coffee and lemons offer certain health benefits as they contain a high amount of antioxidants. Antioxidants protect our bodies from free radicals that can result in heart disease and even cancer. It's these radicals that are produced when your body breaks down the food you eat. The antioxidants that coffee, and lemon, produce have been proven to protect us from them.
Coffee has also been known to reduce the risk of:
- Liver cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Breast cancer
Does lemon juice and coffee help you lose weight?
How about lemon juice?
Lemons and lemon juice both contain high amounts of vitamin C, a tremendous source of antioxidants.
Vitamin C is another proven combatant against certain types of cancers. So, yes, adding some lemon juice to your coffee can certainly be viewed as beneficial however no, it will not help you shed weight.
Is there any reason not to add lemon to my coffee?
First, let's state the obvious negative heath benefits to drinking too much coffee:
- Caffeine addiction/dependency
- Stained teeth
- Bad breath
- Pregnancy loss
The World Health Organization (WHO) actually recognized caffeine addiction as a clinical disorder.
Now, the downside of too much lemon or lemon juice consumption:
- Citric acid leads to dental erosion
Conclusion - does coffee and lemon help you lose weight?
While adding lemon to your coffee will not directly assist in losing weight, there are plenty of proven benefits to consuming both. However, there is no evidence to support additional benefits when consumed together.
