Will Drinking An Espresso After Dinner Keep You Up All Night? Drinks That Cause Insomnia

We've all been there before.

Lying in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. You then inevitably ask yourself why you can't get to sleep.

Did I sleep in this morning?

Did I eat something with too much sugar?

Oh wait - I know. It's probably that shot of espresso I had after dinner!

Coffee can directly effect your ability to fall asleep - thats obvious. What we put into our body and the amount of time in between eating and drinking can have a massive effect on our sleep states Dr. Michael Breus, the "Sleep Doctor".

No Caffeine 8 Hours Before Getting Into Bed

Everyone is different. Some can have that shot of espresso after dinner and sleep just fine. But the majority of us will be up all night tossing and turning.

Dr. Breus explains that it takes at least 8 hours for the caffeine we consume to fully leave our bodies. So if you get in bed around 9PM, and want that deep, relaxing sleep - don't eat or drink anything with caffeine after 1PM.

This is tough for coffee lovers like myself. Ever since I've put a Rocket Appartamento in my kitchen, I look for excuses to turn it on. Whether its serving up some cappuccinos after having guests over for dinner or using it to make a delicious espresso based dessert (espresso gelato, mmmmmm), I always want to use my espresso machine.
